Advisory Board

Overview

Oregon Youth Corps has a nine-member Advisory Board.  The ultimate goal for membership is that as many areas of Oregon as possible are represented.  Because Oregon Youth Corps is a state-wide program, a diverse board membership helps ensure that all of Oregon is being represented.

Committee Appointments

Three members are appointed by the Governor, three are appointed by the Oregon Senate President and three are appointed by the Speaker of the Oregon House.  Members can serve up-to two, three-year terms for a total of six years. State statute requires that there be one state representative and one state senator. All appointments are made at the discretion of each of the offices stated above.

Roles of Board Members

The are several roles of this advisory board and they include:
  • Read and scoring grant applications
  •  Provide feedback on proposed policy/procedures/grant guidelines
  • Provide feedback on program surveys
  • Participate in and may lead efforts for increased program funding
  • Participate on sub-committees

Time Commitment

This board meets quarterly in February, May, August, and November. Typically, meetings occur on the second Thursday of each of those months. Since Oregon Youth Corps is a  state-wide program, locations for those meetings are  varied and there could be a significant amount of travel time involved. Volunteering to read and score applications is the most time consuming role due to the volume of applications received. This process starts in mid-February and ends where the full committee votes on the recommendations. Other time commitment  activities  that could occur outside of the scheduled meetings could  include  participation on sub-committees or projects that come out of those meetings.

Reimbursement

All mileage and  meals are reimbursed at the federal per diem rates. Since travel is required, lodging is necessary. Oregon Youth Corps makes all reservations ahead of time and makes payment up front.
